Affordable Care Act Compliance:

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a comprehensive healthcare reform act that was signed into law in 2010.  The law was enacted in two parts: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act.

In 2012, CAQH CORE was designated by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an author for ACA-mandated operating rules of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

What does this mean for health plans?

Health plans are required to follow operating rules that consist of the Connectivity Rule and Data Content.

-ACA requires all HIPAA-covered entities comply with the ACA-mandated CAQH CORE Operating Rules, Phases I & II- Eligibility & Claim Status Operating Rules, and Phase III-CAQH CORE EFT & ERA Operating Rules.

-The 21st Century Cures Act contains sections to enforce non-compliant penalties.
